G&T

My husband mixes a mean G&T.

People in the neighbourhood are starting to talk about it.

And we’ve had to start stocking up on more gin than ever before.

I’ve watched him make them countless times, but my attempts never seems to garner the same kind of oohs and aahs from the crowd.

Is the magic in the way he squeezes the lime?  Or the volumetric relationship between the gin and the tonic? Are two ice cubes better than three?  Is it the gin?

Well, he certainly loves Hendricks and only insists on using Schweppes tonic (none of that supermarket no-name branded nonsense), the freshest lemon and a good, quality tumbler . . .

Recently, a friend purchased a bottle for us on their way to Sydney, and we landed up with a very very special surprise.

A few months ago, Hendricks launched a Stereoscope Theatre exclusive at Changi airport.   I heard that costumed usherettes handed out popcorn, macaroons, red-roses and premier ticket stubs to travellers as an invitation to the “Hendrick’s Gin Old Cinema Mix-It” bar.  Travellers could sample gin cocktails before being lead to a red-carpeted Hendrick’s Gin Steroscope Theatre for a photo opportunity using various key Hendrick’s Gin motifs as props.

We missed the action, but luckily scored two of the promotional bottles.  This, people, is visual merchandising!   The absolutely perfect union between a creative concept and flawless execution.

  1. I think its all in his showmanship/deliveryhis trick is to keep talking whilst making interesting sounds and gestures to take away from the otherwise tasteless beverage..once he hypes it up you feel almost ‘uncultured’ if you don’t agree that the drink isn’t as good as he makes it out to be

  2. I can vouch for his expertise in mixing a G&T. Life has never been the same since sampling my first one
